3 Ways The "Naturally Thin" Stay That Way

The Naturally Thin Don't Worry - As Much As We Do:  According to a survey conducted by Health Magazine late last year, 54% of all those surveyed said they worry more than their spouse.  Experts that specialize in this area recommend those that worry become aware of what's happening now and keep it in context to your overall goals.  It's not that those that are "Naturally Thin" don't worry - they do - it's just they keep their worries "compartmentalized" and don't allow the worry to overshadow their goals in life.  They take it in stride.

The "Naturally Thin" Eat What They Want:  They eat what they want - within reason.  The key lies in eating until one is satisfied and they don't eat the same high fat foods frequently.

The "Naturally Thin" Look At Food As a Source Of Fuel - Not Comfort:  While it's fine to have a craving for something, "Naturally Thin" people don't look to food as the answer.  They don't think "I'm so sad/stressed today that I'm going to go home and eat a whole pint of ice cream".  The "Naturally Thin" eat and enjoy their food - and move on.

Hopefully these 3 tips help you in your fitness goals.  Remember, feel free to eat, enjoy your food, and don't let life worry steal your peace of mind.

Thank you for taking time to read this.  Feel free to post comments below.

Health Tip: Go A Little "Nuts"

Well, score one for one of the alkaline members of the food pyramid-the almond!! This tasty nut is being acknowledged by the scientific community for role in weight control (think slimmer), antioxidants (think disease prevention), and intestinal flora balance (think good digestion and absorption of crucial nutrients that keep you healthy). So, grab a handful of almonds the next time you need to crunch on something or need a quick snack. They will satisfy you much better than a bag of potato chips or Cheetos from the vending machine!!

Don't care for almonds? Go "nuts" with chestnuts instead.

Why You Should Be On Twitter....

Twitter....

By now, you are familiar with the term or have heard it around - somewhere. Maybe you tried it and just didn't get this "Twitter Thing." Well, I'm here to help you connect the dots - from a health perspective.

Twitter is a mini - blog. The key is to post your post (also known as a "Tweet") in less than 140 words.

The key is to find your "niche." If you are into health - or interested in health, then you will want to use the "Search" function at the bottom of Twitter's page. This is different than the "Find People" tab.

Once you are on the search page, type in "health" or "bellydance" or whatever moves you.

When you find someone that you like (or who's posts you would like to know more about), you will want to "Follow" that person by hitting the "Follow" button under the person's profile photo. To see the person's whole Twitter profile in the search results, just click on the person's name and read their posts/Tweets.

But How Can This Help Me With My Health?
By "Following" people with like interests, this creates a virtual "support group" for where you are in life. If your goal is to loose weight or stay in the know about healthy "stuff", then "Follow" someone that posts great information pertaining to this subject. Converse with that person via Twitter to learn new "cool stuff"

You can always follow us (we'd like to think we are "cool" enough to follow): JadeBellydancer is Jade Fitness & Entertainment's Twitter ID

Other Cool People To Follow:
Twitterbo
Vegan_diet
HolisticMama

This list is to just get you started and is not an exhastive list of people that post great health information by any means. Check out JadeBellydancer under Twitter to see who we're following and vice versa for an idea.

Feel free to leave a comment if you have any questions!

Your Doctor May Want To Tell You The Truth - But Can't

An arresting and jarring title - I know....

For years, members of the natural health and holistic community and believers in following a more natural path have always known that you should work WITH your doctor towards better health - not just blindly follow your doctor without question. What does this mean? It means, your doctor may want to suggest something MORE to help you - but can't. So it's up to you, and us, as consumers to take control of our health and research the prognosis given. Don't assume that pain, fatigue, or lack of focus is normal.

Recently, an article featured in The New York Times called "When Doctors and Nurses Can’t Do the Right Thing" shed light on the dilemma that doctors and their medical staff faces. Some doctors and their staff WANT to give a more aggressive treatment for various patient medical conditions, but between the threat of medical establishment and the lawyers - the stakes are simply to high. For those doctors that are aware of "something being wrong" - they are among the group suffering from "Medical and Moral Distress."

Why can't doctors and nurses just TELL you what you need? Because they risk loosing their jobs, being sued, or having their medical license revoked. One doctor reported on this incident in an article titled "An Important Letter About Trust". After recommending a common and effective alternative approach to a patient's condition, the doctor was immediately summoned in front of the American Medical Association for a full investigation with the potential of loosing his medical license! In this situation, the doctor "got off with a warning" with the condition to NEVER mention natural approaches to treat patients again.

But the tide is turning, as more cases of people using alternative therapy yields results, members of the conservative school of thought in the medical community and the legal community are beginning to notice and hopefully pave the way for the public to become aware of ways to take charge of their health without quickly and resorting to prescription drugs. In the future, maybe doctors and nurses like these featured in these articles will be able to tell their patients the truth - without fear of consequences....

Want To Know What Else is Making you Fat? - High Fructose Corn Syrup...

We're bringing it to you first, don't fall for the commercial "hype" that is about to hit the airwaves in the next coming months. According to the Corn Refiners Association, "high-fructose corn syrup contains the same amount of calories as cane and beet sugar, is metabolized by the body the same way as these sweeteners are, and is an all-natural product."

Please don't believe it!!

The ad campaign boasts that HFCS (High-Fructose Corn Syrup) is like honey. Well, we guess it could be all natural if one of it's main ingredients - corn starch - naturally soaked in a vat of alphaamylase, trickled into a holding tank of glucoamylase, and after a lovely fungus growth grew on top, the solution could be strained into a container holding industrial grade D-xylose isomerase (sounding natural yet?)

So here's the catch, chemically, high-fructose corn syrup is similar to cane sugar because it too contains 50% fructose and 50% glucose, but since most consumers should limit their consumption of sugar to no more than 32 grams daily and HFCS is in almost EVERYTHING these days, something as simple as a can of soda can put you over your daily sugar limit.

We know it is difficult to avoid HFCS, but these are some of the foods that contain it:
  • Yoplait Yogurt
  • Salad Dressings
  • “Smart” Ice Cream Sandwiches
  • 100 Calorie Snack Packs
  • Soft drinks
  • Salsa
  • BBQ Sauce
  • Ketchup

Take a close look at your fast food restaurant order please - according to Foodfacts.info even something as simple at your Subway Teriyaki Glazed Chicken Strips sandwich has HFCS. Click the link to see a listing of restaurants that include HFCS in their menu items

Why Does HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup) Make You Fat?

High fructose makes you fat because it's similar to the "party crasher that snuck in through the back door." By bypassing your liver (it decides how to process sugar as it enters the body - store, burn, or turn to fat), HFCS bypasses this process and turns directly into fat.

How To Avoid?

Our recommendation is to read the label. Don't trust the "pretty front" of a package. Instead, look at the ingredients - Especially the first 3 ingredients listed. The first 3 ingredients indicate which ingredients are the majority.

Give us your feedback? How have you avoided HFCS since reading this information?

Sweet Potatoes Help Your Figure – And Fight Colds and Flu!

In Saturday’s class, the health and nutrition tip we addressed talked about how to stick to your fitness plans and goals despite cold weather. Who wants a cold cup of cereal when it’s cold outside? Not too many people. Who wants a cold salad?

You want something warm – and filling.

This is where people get off track – enter the super breakfast combo – eggs, butter, toast, pancakes, hash browns, etc…

Although this combo isn’t bad if eaten once in a while, it is bad if you eat it all the time – like ALL WINTER/FALL

So, instead try a sweet potato for breakfast or lunch!

It’s easy, just puncture it several times with a fork after washing the spud, pop it into the microwave for 5 – 10 minutes (depending on the size of the spud). Serve with butter or drizzle honey, or add a dash of cinnamon – viola! Healthy, filling, and good for your breakfast.

Ohh, did we mention it will help you fight off a mean cold or flu this season. Why? Because these sweet spuds are chocked full of vitamin A (a nutrient you immune system depends on) – 769% of the daily recommended value per one cup serving.

And they are cheaper than that McDonalds breakfast sandwich, or the Starbucks breakfast “thingie” you grab in the morning too!
